Vitality of biometric security system cannot be ignored. With the advancement
in technology; criminals, terrorists, mafia, and other anti social elements
have become technologically superior. In order to prevent wrong doings in your
premises, it has become important to use biometrics. Number of people using
this technology for security purposes in India is large. Face recognition system,
biometric fingerprint reader in India, iris recognition, palm reader, voice
recognition system are to name a few. United Kingdom has the biggest market
in the world. Other countries do not lag far behind in accepting this technology,
including India!

Indian market for biometric security system is huge. This system has become
a part of the daily life of many in India. It is not merely restricted to high-profile,
sensitive places, in need of enhanced security! It has a found a place for itself
in normal, day-to-day life. You may easily spot a biometric fingerprint reader
in India in corporate offices, schools, colleges, hospitals, and other places.
In fact, Government of India is getting actively involved in the promotion of
this technology in the country. Issuance of the Unique Identification Number
(UIN) to all its citizens supports the statement. The project is expected to
be the biggest implementation of biometrics in the world.

As per this project, each citizen will get a 12 digit identification number.
The number will be a unique identification number allotted to all the 1.25 billion
citizens. The numbers will be stored in a database which will contain details
about the individual. Biometric details about the individual will also be present
in the database. The project has been named ‘Aadhar’ by the Government
officials. The UIN will enable citizens to get rid of the problems of maintaining
many documents. It may prove to be more beneficial than a passport or a PAN
card. Besides, it may even help in crime detection and prevent identity theft.
Biometric security system may see a rise in sales when the project is executed.

Physical count for data will most probably begin by February 2011. Many pilot
projects are running in different parts of the country. Biometric data of the
individuals are collected with the help of a biometric security system. Photographing
the face, imaging the iris, collecting fingerprints by a biometric
fingerprint reader in India
, is a part of this test phase. Though there
is little awareness about the project among the natives, the test phase is getting
corporation of the people. Even villagers find it comfortable to share their
biometric and other personal details. Identity cards will have this number once
the project is completed.

Current home minister of India, P Chidambaram, remarks that this is the biggest
exercise in the history of the human race. Every Indian citizen may get a UIN
by 2011. This ambitious mission may increase the popularity of biometric security
system in India. Use of this technology may increase drastically in the near
