Biometry is believed to be a modern technology. However, this technology has been prevalent since thousands of years. In ancient times, almost 31000 years ago, handprints were used as signatures. Fingerprints were used as a person’s identity as early as 500 B.C.

First time employment of this technique in India was recorded by Sir William Herschel. He used to work for the civil services and contracted employees on a per day basis. He recorded their handprints and fingerprints on the back of a contract to distinguish genuine employees who came for work on any particular day. Practice lead to lesser hassles on payday. Gradually, deployment of structured biometric fingerprint reader in India became widespread.

This technology is used in many areas which require identity verification. Every individual has a unique fingerprint. No two people have identical patterns on the finger. Not even twins! The device works on this principle. It enrolls this detail of a particular user first. Next time, the user can gain access by simply punching his finger into the machine. Biometric fingerprint reader in India can read the minutest ridges and patterns on the finger of the user. Only if every fine pattern matches the template stored in the database, will it consider the transaction valid. Otherwise, the individual is not allowed access.

India is increasingly getting aware of this technology. It is not difficult to spot a fingerprint reader in India today. You may easily come across a biometric security system in commercial as well as government offices. It is combined with different software as solutions for Human Resource management. It can be combined with payroll software or with time attendance in large corporate offices for employee details management. Highly sensitive areas use this technology combined with access control to restrict unauthorized entrée. It can also be used in computers as an alternative to passwords. Application of this mechanism in modern India is enormous.

Future of this mechanics in India is bright. Biometric security system is likely to be utilized in many areas in the near future. ATM centers may make use of this mechanics instead of PIN. This will make financial transactions more secured. Biometric fingerprint reader in India can also be used in election campaigns to prevent illegitimate voting. It may also be used in passports and visa verification. In fact, all areas that may require identity verification including driving licenses, hall tickets issued to students during examinations, etc. may make use of this mechanics. Its use is expected to grow considerably in the country.

Currently, there is a mega project being planned. According to this project, each and every citizen of the country will get a Unique Identification Number (UIN). Each number will have the biometric details of the individual stored against it.

This may be the biggest implementation of biometrics if carried out successfully. Biometric fingerprint reader in India is currently used in many places. Accuracy and reliability are the main factors responsible for its success. Biometric security system is expected to conquer the security industry very soon.
